Skyping with Author Myke Cole & Giveaway

I recently had the pleasure of talking with Myke Cole author of the debut novel Shadow Ops: Control Point releasing from ACE today.   We had a fun conversation via Skype I even managed to get on tape Myke agreeing to make good on writing a romance novel. (I will hold this as hostage until we get one.)   I for one can't wait for that!

I digress.  If you ever get the chance to meet Myke Cole the first thing you will notice is that he is military - it oozes from him whether it's consciously or sub-consciously.  The second thing you will notice is the passion he has about anything he is doing.  I learned this quickly and I 've only had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times.

So for a chance to hear what Myke has to say CLICK THE AUDIO CLIPS BELOW  Sometimes it's just better when you hear straight from them.  (I've spared you all and edited out moi!)

Please note:  The audio files take about 15 seconds to play -
this was done so nothing is downloaded to your computer!

When asked what exactly inspired him to write Control Point, Myke declared his AHHH moment was 'red tape'.   .....

"Red Tape"  who would have figured that something bureaucratic would lead to such a great military fantasy novel. (You can find my review here.)

Myke's book Control Point is coming out today it is his debut novel in the Shadow Ops series.   In his own words this is how he would describe Control Point?

I asked Myke if he could go back and change anything involved in the journey he took to get to this point would he and why?

Does Myke have a  kernel of wisdom he would like to pass on to an aspiring writer?

Do you ever wonder if an author has someone in mind when they are writing a character?  Or are characters bits and pieces of people?  See what Myke has to say...

Myke has a past with Dungeon and Dragon's and his love for Captain America is well known let us  see how he feels they influenced his writing ....

Myke reveals his ultimate career goal ever since his mother took him to the Met.

I keep lobbying for Team Harlequin and Myke is good enough to humor me with this next answer.  Is the second book Oscar -centric or will we get to see other characters like Harlequin? This leads me to a very important question do you plan on writing Harlequin his own story or perhaps a short of his own?

I would really get on board with the Origin stories.

Now for some random questions that Myke promised to answer with the first thing that come to mind.

1) You have an afternoon totally free and you have no internet access or cell phone what would you do?

I am going to Weehawken Heights, NJ and see the dueling site between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Bure.  Alexander Hamilton was the founder of the US Coast Guard.  I've meant to make a pilgrimage to the sit where he was shot in that duel.  It's suppose to be gorgeous and overlook the Hudson. I really want to see it and I haven't yet.  If I have nothing else to do that is what I am doing.

2) The last silly thing you did?

I DM'd (for those that might not what that means he was Dungeon Master) the author's D&D at Confusion.   It was both an Epic exercise in silliness which you will see when the video's are published and also one of the most coolest experiences in my life.

3) So what's your beef with the Ewok's?

They're surrounded by blaster technology. They're clearly smart and yet they stick to spears.  What's up with that?

4) Hollywood/Literary Crush?

My hollywood crush no question is Monica Bellucci. When I saw her in the Le Pacte des Loupe (Brotherhood of the Wolf) there is just no coming back from that she is actually a vision.  My literary crush is going to have to be Catherine Asaro for a couple of reasons.  First of all she is super woman - she is a romance and science fiction writer.  She is also a physicist, a mother, a dancer, a musician and she wrote the Last Hawk. ( a sci-fi romance where she reverses the gender roles)

5) What's one thing on your bucket list you are willing to share with us?

I want to run a marathon.

Final thoughts from Myke ....  Click here to hear what Myke had to say.

IT's an awesome Book could not put it down. It Is a fast and Furious Ride, it starts out running and except for a few moments to catch your breath it doesn't let you stop.
